Captain Meet September 22, 2020
Driving Nominations with BJ Lingren
Two years ago Justin Spettel set a 1st year record with over 50 nominations in his area of Green Bay, Wisconsin. (Which BTW beat year 1 and 2 of BCE)Here he breaks down exactly how he did it:
Don, I will try to recall what I did. The first day I made the decision to do this (last Thurs.) I called my pastor right away and shared the message. I then closed my office door and prayed aloud for God’s help to get this message to the people who need to hear it. I knew I needed practice telling the BCE story so I shared it at least a few times to people in my office that afternoon. I then drove to Fox News in town and told the receptionist the whole story about BCE and how I’m trying to get the message out there so families could be nominated. She then called down and a reporter who came to talk with me. He took a lot of notes... He never called me back.
I then made a list that night of all the places in town who might know of some families in need of the BCE. The next day I probably made 5 phone calls, sent out a bcc email to a bunch of professional explaining BCE and the help I needed. I also walked into the front door of channel 2 and channel 5 tv stations and again told the receptionist my story. At channel 2, this was funny. The receptionist over the intercom told me I need to submit the story online and wait. She said no one comes down without an appointment because they are busy. I told her the BCE story and my 11/15 deadline and that I didn’t have time to wait and I wanted to tell my story to someone. She then talked to a reporter and told me to come back in 20 mins. So I drove over to channel 5 and did the same thing I did at Fox but the difference on this one, at channel 5, (and channel 2) was I had my phone cued up to show a BCE video and show them the website (Channel 5 called me back on the following Wednesday and I was on the news live yesterday). So I went back to channel 2 and told the reporter my story. She said she wanted to come interview me on Monday and do a story for Tuesday to help drive nominations. That happened and was a success. I didn’t stop with that and I don’t intend to stop. I walked into a church I don’t go to and told the story. Walked into 3 different homeless shelters and told the story to case managers. Told the story to the executive director for habitat for humanity. I told most friends I came in contact with about it (probably 20). I posted on my LinkedIn 2 times and once with the channel 2 interview. Posted on my Facebook biz page 3 times and Personal page 2 times. I still have a few more contacts to make because I want this program to grow in Green Bay over the coming years.
Use as you see fit. And the learning is in the doing!
